Blue Client — Usage Terms

Last updated 2026-08-01

This is a free tech-demo build of a custom Minecraft 1.8.9 client. It is not open source, and use of this software is governed by the terms below, not by MIT, GPL, or any other OSI-approved licence. By installing or running the Software you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, do not install or use it.

1. Licence grant

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download and run this software for your own personal, non-commercial use.

2. Restrictions

You may not, without prior written permission from the author:

  • Redistribute this software, in original or modified form, to any third party (including re-uploading it, mirroring it, or bundling it with other software).
  • Modify, decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer this software, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
  • Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise commercially exploit this software or access to it.
  • Use this software to cheat, grief, or otherwise violate the rules or terms of service of any Minecraft server you connect to.

3. No warranty

This software is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This is an early tech demo — expect bugs, crashes, and incomplete features. The author is not liable for any damages (including account bans, item/world loss, or data loss) arising from use of this software.

4. Third-party software and assets

This software downloads and uses Mojang's official client.jar for Minecraft 1.8.9, fetched directly from Mojang's own servers on first launch. That file, and the game assets it contains, remain the property of Mojang Studios / Microsoft and are governed by the Minecraft End User License Agreement, not by these terms. This project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Mojang Studios or Microsoft in any way. "Minecraft" is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB.

This software also bundles or depends on various open-source third-party libraries; see the licences distributed alongside the binary for their individual terms, which continue to apply to those components.

5. Future changes

Some features of this software may become paid in the future. Continuing to use a version you already downloaded under these terms does not obligate you to pay for it; new paid features will be opt-in.

6. Data

We collect a limited set of operational data described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Software you also accept that document.

7. Bug reports and contact

Bug reports are welcome and appreciated via the Discord server, #bug-report channel, using the /bug command. For licensing questions or permission requests, reach out the same way.

Acceptance of these terms is recorded locally at ~/.blue/terms_accepted. You may revoke acceptance at any time by deleting that file and uninstalling the Software.
